New Organ for First Presbyterian Church, Newport, Oregon

First Presbyterian Church of Newport, Oregon has commissioned a new two-manual, twenty rank instrument for its recently enlarged sanctuary. This will be Bond Organ Builders Opus 34. The instrument will enjoy ideal placement on the center axis of the church, behind and above the choir (pictured here with a computer simulation of the facade).

The lowest pipes of the Pedal and Great Principals, of flamed copper, will form the display. Manual flue pipes will stand on Bond’s customary slider windchests. The Swell reeds employ unit action to allow duplexing to the Great and Pedal. The instrument will be controlled by a tilting-tablet console equipped with all the expected conveniences (multiple memory levels, transposer, record/playback system and programmable crescendo sequences).

Installation is planned for early summer 2008. Don Jenkins is the church’s Director of Music.
