A 'Smorgasbord' of Musical Delights

Listeners with eclectic musical appetites can hear a new release of the debut recording by organist Grant Edwards.

Entitled “A Musical Feast,” the CD presents a program in the form of a complete 10-course dinner menu. Ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, the selections were chosen specifically to showcase the diverse musical flavors of Bond’s magnum opus at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Seattle.

“Must-hear” tracks include the well-crafted Suite in Dorian Mode by contemporary Canadian composer Denis Bédard, the highly caffeinated Toccata Planyavska by Guy Bovet, and Edwards’ over-the-top rendition of Charpentier’s Offertoire, complete with historically-accurate military band percussion.

This is the third recording of a Bond instrument produced by Fred Hohman on the Pro Organo label after Robert Bates’ “Complete Works of Brahms” and Nancy Cooper’s “The Road Less Travelled.” Friends of Bond Organ Builders will recognize the name Grant Edwards: he has been a craftsman at Bond since 1993.
