Bond Acquires 1953 Aeolian-Skinner

This fine example of G. Donald Harrison's work with Aeolian-Skinner was originally installed in the sanctuary of the First United Methodst Church of Tacoma, Washington, in 1953.  The church building was surrounded on three sides by Tacoma General Hospital, which had coveted the property for many years.  The hospital bought the property and demolished the church in October, 2006.

The organ was purchased by Bond Organ Builders of Portland, Oregon, and removed intact prior to the demolition.   It is now safely stored in our shop.  This organ, being over 50 years old, needs releathering before it is moved to a new home, but in all other respects is in excellent condition.

We were able to see and hear the instrument in its original location and regard it as first class in its installation and tonal finishing.  No alterations have been made to any part of the instrument except for installation of a new rectifier in recent years, and addition of a Schulmerich Carillon, probably in the 1950's or 60's.

We have a selection of digital photographs taken in the Methodist Church and a complete stoplist available (see links below). The instrument is a fine example of Harrison's tonal work and filled a 500 seat room of average acoustics from its placement in a chamber in the front of the nave.
